Gay Men's Heath Crisis (GMHC) hosted their 5th annual Fashion Forward charity gala on Thursday November 17 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. The event unites fashion, celebrity, silent and live auctions to help raise funds for the fight against AIDS. Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross and Brad Goreski, the affair brought out top designers and elite professionals all dedicated to help prevent and find a cure for the disease .This year GMHC also honored Socialite Julie Macklowe with the Inaugural Style Vault Award.

The soiree began with a nice cocktail reception and red carpet arrivals; followed by several products silently auctioned including Julie Macklowe very own luxury skin care line vbeauté. Tracee Elis Ross and Brad Goreski also lead a live auction with luxury prizes like vacation packages to France, Brazil and Sweden, Armani Exchange fashion, Apple ipad 2, and more. However, the main attraction of the night was the fashion show featuring over 70 professional models both male and female wearing the latest runway looks donated from designers Chris Benz, Thom Browne, Jean Paul Gaultier, Marlon Gobel, Sally Lapointe, Zang Toi, Timo Weiland, and VPL. Last night was the 10 year celebration gala for the We Are Family Foundation that was held at the Manhattan center’s Hammerstein Ballroom. Hosted by Rosie Perez, many celebrities, fashion moguls, and socialites were out to lend their support and celebrate the foundation and its founding father legendary song-writer, musician, and producer Nile Rodgers as he accepted the We Are Family Humanitarian Award.

The four time Grammy nominee started the foundation not long after the September 11 2001 terrorist attracts. Wanting to give hope and make a difference just days after the attack, Nile along with Tommy Silverman (president of Tommy Boy Records) gathered over 200 celebrities from all areas of the entertainment industry to re-record Nile’s 1979 hit song “ We are Family” written for and song by the group Sister Sledge. The song with its powerful message of unity had a profound impact on the world after its re-release in light of the traumatic events. In 2002, Nile and Christopher Cerf (award winning children’s TV/music producer) re-recorded a children’s version of the song. The music video was recorded with help from over 100 children’s characters such as Big Bird, Dora the Explorer, and Barney to name a few. Again the message was clear and the impact unfathomable. This was just the beginning. Today the foundation with its global teen leaders has grown to help our youngest members all over the world by creating programs that inspire, educate, alleviate, and spread the message of a global family.

Some of the guest from last night’s event were Andre Leon Talley, Dionne Warwick, Montel Williams, Jackson Brown, EZA, Q-Tip, Kathy Sledge and the B52’s to name a few. The program included musical performances, dinner, and a live auction. The dressy affair was a mix of long gowns, cocktail/party dresses, suits, to denim and suit jacket combos. Actress/choreographer, and Brooklyn’s own Rosie Perez looked fantastic in a long navy blue satin gown, and Dionne Warwick looked chic in her black wrap cape trimmed with sable. Nile Roberts also looked great in his black suit and head tie. Overall the celebration helped raised funds for the foundation and brought together friends and family for a good cause.

The Heart of a New Master, Fashion Designer Danilo Gabrielli

Elegantly classic with an edge, that is how I would describe fashion designer Danilo Gabrielli‘s clothing. His quest for detail and craftsmanship gives each piece character and timeless wear-ability. For spring/summer 2012 Mr. Gabrielli début his first American collection at Nolcha Fashion Week in New York City to great reviews. And for this Italian born designer, it was the first hurdle to a lifelong dream.

Born in Porto Santo Stefano located in the municipality of Monte Argentario, in the Province of Grosseto, the Tuscany region of Italy, Danilo’s passion and love of fashion really came from his mother and by watching old Hollywood films, and for his first collection it’s no surprise he drew his inspiration from one of Hollywood’s sexist and iconic screen legends, Miss Brigitte Bardot. Each piece in his collection is beautifully constructed with ingenuity and attention to detail. His silhouettes are clean and simple, yet ooze an undefined sex appeal and elegance reminiscent of the screen legend. Danilo only uses the best fabrics, from Swiss white cotton eyelet to double face silk organza to laser cut waxed embroidery trimmed in leather, and though his collection is small, there is a variety of dressy looks from day into evening for both men and women.

When I first meet with Mr. Gabrielli, I was pleasingly surprise to see how humbled, excited, and passionate he is to create his first clothing line under his name. One can easily see the time, dedication, and hard work it took to be in the position he is today. But do not take this designer for granted. Although this is his first collection, Danilo is highly skilled and accomplished. Before coming to New York, he served three years in the Italian Navy to save up enough money to go to one of the most influential fashion schools in Rome (The Accadamia Pistoiese). During this time he found great success in the Italian fashion market as a costume designer, and up on his graduation he made the decision to come to New York City. Once in New York, he quickly found success as an accessory designer for Geoffrey Beene, and eventually become a senior designer for many esteemed labels such as Tommy Hilfiger and Simply Vera Wang. Now with his label in place, the sky is the limit.

The National Father's Day Committee celebrated their 70th annual Father's Day award at the beautiful Sheraton Hotel. It was an afternoon celebrating what it means to not only be a good father but to demonstrate the balance between home and professional life. All of the recipients are outstanding men in their careers and the 2011 outstanding fathers are the following:

16th Annual Gen Art Film Festival - Day Six

The 16th Annual Gen Art film festival is seven days of exclusive movie premiers and after parties with some of the film industry most emerging talents. Actors, filmmakers, producers, and movie lovers filled the visual Arts theater in New York City last week to hear each director's commentary and experience in making their film, as well as to watch and give critiques after the show. Each day the audience experience one feature film and one short, and day six of the festival was no exception.
The evening started with an open reception and cocktails during which the actors and directors mingled with guess and posed on the red carpet. Guess took to their seats as the night begin with the short film called "Worst Enemy" Directed by Lake Bell. This whimsical short film is about a peculiar woman name Wooly who gets trapped in a body hugging girdle. It made a strong statement about women in American culture and how we easily get trapped in this superficial world of beauty and idealism, highly recommend. The main feature of the night was "American Animal" stared and directed by Matt D'Elia. The movie also stared Brendan Fletcher, Mircea Monroe, Angela Sarafyan. This movie was really disturbing and is about a rich terminally ill young man who wants to live on is own terms, eventually becoming psychotic when his best friend wanted some kind of normality in his life by getting a job. Yet underneath it all we can relate the character in some way and see a little bit of ourselves on screen. Overall the film was interestingly disturbing in a good way.
The After party at Avenue, 116 10th avenue was jam packed and everyone was ready to have a good time. Dj Josh Sparber, took the party to a new level as he played the latest hit and mixes that got everyone on the dance floor. It was the perfect opportunity to speak with and let loose intimately with actors, and industry professionals. Highlight of the evening was meeting actress Sanaa Lathan from the movie Love & Basketball , Disappearing Acts, and Alien vs. Predator to name a few. Other Celebrities that week included Gabourey Sidibe, Zoe Kravitz , Dan Byrd, Rachel Boston, Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Connelly, Harvey Keitel, Pierce Brosnan, Scott Caan, Tim Blake Nelson and Marisa Tomei.

The High School of Fashion Industries Welcome Isabel & Ruben Toledo!

It was a breath of fresh air seeing young, creative minds come together not only to put together this event, but to see them with such a deep passion for fashion. The High School of Fashion Industries celebrated their graduating class with a year end fashion extravaganza. The theme of the show was represented by various continents and elements of their native attire including bridal gowns. Their collections included, Africa, Asia, India and America. The show was modeled in its entirety by the students who definitely strut their stuff proudly.

The evening started out with a brief introduction of the school and then the husband and wife team Ruben and Isabel Toledo took the stage. Isabel, who does not actually know how to sketch, conveys her thoughts and ideas to Ruben who then pens them and makes them come to life. "It goes from my lips to Ruben's pen" said Isabel. When asked how is it to work so closely with your husband, she describes it as a way of expressing herself and she really would not have it any other way.

The Toledo family originally got involved with the High School of Fashion Industries through one of the board of directors Ruth Finlay whom they have worked very closely with. That is why when the opportunity came up for them to participate their designs and artwork, the Toledos decided to go full force and put all their creative energy into making an even bigger event.

As we say au revoir to class of 2011, this show has just set the bar for the class of 2012 who are anxiously awaiting their turn to be on display.

Meet Actor and Entrepenur Mr. Resk'que

He's an actor, entrepeneur and doing major things in the fashion world and simply goes by the name of Resk'que. Definitely the unusual spelling fits the aura of his unique personality. Currently, Resk'que is working on several major projects including the next edition of NY Fashion fashion week. For that he is busy at work collaborating with several local emerging designers but as well as designers from across Europe to bring forth their style and talents.

When he decided to hold the premier of his series 'I need all three' it was a celebration of going to back to his roots. 'My background is originally acting, so it was nice to go back to very beginning and bring that back to light again'. The story is about a young woman who moves to New York to pursue her dream of becoming a professional model. In the sitcom, Resk'que operates a model agency where the girl comes for a casting but soon realizes that he's developing feeling making business and pleasure almost impossible. Right now, 'I need all three' is being shopped to various networks so it may be on a local channel near you in the fall!

Tulips and Pansies the headdress affair!

It was like walking into a garden filled with an array of flowers. The backstage area of Gotham Hall quickly transformed into a magical garden where sweet floral aromas filled the air. The 10th Annual 'Tulips and Pansies the headdress affair" took place last night and was without a doubt a major success. Supporters came out to raise funds for VilageCare, a non profit organization that aims to improve the quality of life of those living with HIV/AIDS.

The event was hosted by fashion guru and television host James Aguiar whose witty personality and charm were well received. Each year the best designers from the fashion and floral worlds are paired together and combine forces to make these over-the-top one of a kind pieces. However, what gives this an interesting twist is that the event is judged by several different celebrities including the category for most entertaining headdress and most beautiful.

This year the judges were Beth Broderick, "Aunt Zelda" from Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Michael Musto writer for the Village Voice, Daphne Rubin Vega two time Tony nominee and Broadway actress and Mike Ruiz a world renowned photographer. This was an event that required our biggest headpieces and a lot of glitter! Everyone came out in great style, all smiles and most important, for a wonderful cause.

Chelsea is no stranger to art and artists. That's why when the quaint CATM gallery on 22nd and 10th had their viewing of Revelation it was very well received. David Zelikovsky gave Lydia Patel an exclusive interview about the art pieces and their meanings. What's interesting is that the actual artist was not present for the viewing. It created a sense of mystery for the art aficionados who came out.

WeKnow.TV at the 27th Annual ICP Infinity Awards

Each year the International Center for Photography acknowledges the work of those whose powerful images move and excite us. For the 27th year, the ICP held their Infinity Awards where numerous photographers, photo journalists and more gathered throughout the fraternity for photography’s biggest night.

Some of the top honorees for the night included Dr. Ruth Gruber who received the Cornell Cappa Award, Peter Van Agtmael was the recipient of the young photography award, Alec Soth won for best publication, and Viviane Sassen for best applied/fashion/advertising photography.

WeKnow.TV had the great pleasure of being a part of this fantastic event and capturing all of the pre-show cocktails and award ceremony details. We Know TV on location at Ground Hero

It was a day of solidarity where most New Yorkers and those from around the world looked beyond in disbelief, that almost a decade ago such a tragedy took place. President Barack Obama delivered a heart felt speech as he addressed the Nation in the very locations where the original attacks took place. Lydia Patel was in the midst o f the action and got to speak to several bystanders, tourists and even victims who were on site.

Ground Hero was the spot to be that day, most people just felt the need to come out and remember while others were only seeing it for the very first time. We Know TV interviewed a mother of one of the victim s about coming on this day and even the memory of her son. It doesn’t matter that Osama is dead because my son is gone’. It was definitely a heartfelt afternoon and memories. Some people talked about where they were day the event happened and when they head the news not only of Osama’s death but of the original attacks on the morning of September 11^th 2001.

Others in the area celebrated and even made a business out of it. Two gentlemen were even selling t-shirts out of their car bearing the logo ‘Bush gave the push, Obama got Osama!’ and believe me, they were selling like hot cakes. Lydia Patel and We Know TV did some great post coverage of right after President Obama’s departure and capture what the real word on the street was with these event.

We Know TV at Reel to Runway’s Fashion Extravaganza

It’s 9:00pm and everyone is still running around frantically as it’s the final minutes before show time. Make up is being done, the scent of curling iron and spray mist the air and Lydia Patel is backstage capturing the intensity of the pre show time madness.

Reel the Runway is a production company based in Toronto, Canada and this was their very first fashion show case in the big apple. Designer Salem Mousallam was the feature for the night with his fabulous collection and great accessory pieces. Renee was not only the producer of the show but the top model of the event and definitely ripped the run way in fine style. The show as at uniquely placed private loft in SoHo, there was a private area to enjoy the show and feel very much like you were a part of the action. During Lydia’s one on one with Salem, he described his fascination for black women as ‘they have long great and great curves all at the same time’ which inspired his very African collection which featured hues of nudes and earth tones. The accessories on the hands, popped galore! Turquoise, bright pinks, yellow and more were the chosen set to accentuate each peach. Even the makeup was blended to make the pieces just stand out.

We Know TV at the Premier of Shoe Shine Chicken

With such an interesting title, you can’t help but to want to find out more about this film. There was definitely a lot of shoe shining, well, I guess you can say the same about the chicken –he’s the lead character. It was an independent film that is set in Coney Island Brooklyn in the early 1960’s.
Lydia Patel caught up with not only a few of the actors from the film but as well as the producer and director who all came together to make this project come to life. As the director described ‘There were many sleepless nights but it’s great to see the project come to life on the screen.

What’s great, is that child actors were involved in the project changing the element of the game but as also it was so well portrayed that you can’t help but to be captivated by a story of ambition, summer time events and laughter.

Backstage Access at NY Accessory week!

New York is definitely noted for having a week for pretty much anything and accessories are certainly no exception. Accessory week featured a major line up of great designers and brands from across the globe who look to have their shoes, bags, bracelets and more in boutiques throughout the city. Lydia Patel and the We Know TV crew got backstage access at the event which was very much an eventful day (including some unintended pyrotechnics ) and more.

We caught up with Freelook watches who demonstrated what the hottest watches are going to be for the next up coming season, special features details about the Freelook collection on a whole. One of my personal favorites had to be the Crislu collection (available at all major department stores) and showcased some of the hottest c ubic zirconia jewels. I even got to have my royal experience for a brief moment, trying one a replica of Cate Middleton’s engagement ring from Prince William. Can I say I do? Finally it was on to the hand bags and bracelets because accessory week would not be complete it we didn’t have a great bag and some matching bangles or earings to match.

Vrooooooooooom, The NY International Auto show another success!

It was ten days of speed, sexy cars and gizmo and gadgets that all love to include in or wish list. Every year the New York International Auto Show attracts thousands of patrons from across the US and abroad to view what the latest makes in the car industry have to offer. It’s almost like a sneak peak into the future and taste of how the evolution of driving and experience is continuously changing. We Know TV spent the weekend test driving not only the hottest rides but getting exclusive details from some of the most luxurio us brands in the business.

Lydia Patel caught up with Lotus Cars, Lexus and Infinite just to name a few. And we say hot, we mean hot. Lotus is a brand that is synonymous with speeds and agility and we got a sneak preview of the new 2013 Lotus. Lexus demonstrated their new concept car and high end make. From your everyday brands to the ones that bare a mind blowing price tag, We had all the action and fun in that jam packed weekend.

A night out at Da Mikele

All great festivals needs the following: press, attendance and a great spot to host an after party! During this year’s Tribeca Film Festival Da Mikele’s restaurant located in the heart of Tribeca, hosted a fabulous after party nearing the close of the Festival. Lydia Patel was on location to capture the scene and enjoy the many flavors of Italy that filled the room.

After movie goers enjoyed various screenings, it was time to head over to Da Mikele for great anti pasti, absolutely amazing pizza and drink specials all night long. I had to admit that the pizza and the wine definitely are among my favorites and a sure thing that I will be returning back for more. The entire staff was in a festive mood, celebrating the best of the Tribeca culture and bringing everyone together for a slice of what Da Mikele has to offer.

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

Lee Alexander McQueen was truly one of the great master couturier of our time. He was an inspiration to me and countless other fashion designers. The raw passion, craftsmanship, and creativity in his work transcends time and fashion making them masterpieces of art. "Savage Beauty" is the new exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. The exhibit will be on display now through to July 31. Many of the designers radical and iconic designs are on display from his post graduate collection, to being creative director at Givenchy, and finally to his own London design house.

The drama and showmanship throughout the collections was unbelievably fantastic. Every intricate detail, cut, and tailoring is right there for you to examine and appreciate his extraordinary talent. Alexander went beyond the boundaries of conventional fashion and created unique compositions that incorporate technological ingenuity. Also on display is the beautiful and extravagant head-pieces created for Alexander by the great hat designer Philip Treacy. One particular I fell in love with was the bird hat made of wood and coral, shown above.

Alexander will be missed and is a tremendous lost to the fashion industry. However, this exhibit is filled with works to be treasured. This is a must see exhibit for any designer and fashionista who can appreciate the craft.

Meet curvy model Lizzie Miller!

Who ever said curvy wasn’t in definitely isn’t at the forefront of the latest fashion and lifestyle trends going on. Lizzie Miller is not only a curvy model (she prefers that term over ‘plus size’) who not only has appeal to real women, she can also sing. Getting to have my one on one with Lizzie was rather intriguing and fascinating at the same time. She’s your girl next door, sweet and genuinely down to earth young women who got recognize by The F.A.M.E Movement for her work as a role model . Yes she is curvy and that doesn’t stop her from indulging in her favorite dishes and dining across the city. Lizzie personable ways opened doors for her to promote women and their self esteem not only in the industry but on a day to day as well.
WE Know TV of course had to take in all of the mid-town action at this private invite only event. Circoc was flowing, pictures were flashing and for those who were watching their figure stay away from the goat cheese and provolone pizza that was on deck!

An evening at the Eco Chic Boutique

Another amazing event covered by We Know TV today, celebrating Earth Week 2011 at The Muse New York in Time Square. The “Eco-Chic Boutique” event featured 5 designers of eco friendly brands that I got the chance to talk with. Linda Wong of Canopy Verde, showed us her fantastic line of handbags made of organic cotton and chrome free leather at phenomenal prices for fashionistas world wide. My favorite was the white Freesia bag that I wish I could’ve snagged right off of the table before leaving.

Mango Tree Bangles wowed us with their vibrant and bright colored fitted bangles perfect for every wrist with one of their four sizes. Their accessory would match any item of clothing in my closet and yours, and we can feel good knowing they were made only from trees no longer able to yield fruit. Remember folks, this is about staying green!

But I have to say Reiter8 was the brand I was most impressed by. Totes, messenger bags and pillows all made from sails from sail boats. Up-cycle designer Katherine Rasmussen says, instead of recycle. The coolest thing to be able to donate your old sail to Katherine for her line and in return, receive a tote or pillow made from it! Better be sure I purchased one of her hand made business card holders for myself. I also think I might of convinced her to design a line of bikinis made from the sails, and if so I hope she now has me on speed dial.

A unique event to remind us all, going green’s actually pretty hot! And we can make it apart of our every day lifestyles with fashion, necessities, and even happy hour with the organic vodka cocktails from Square One Vodka! What a great way to bring in Spring with an all around good feeling that today’s proceeds will benefit The Trust for Public Land – an organization dedicated to conserving land for people to enjoy as parks, gardens and other natural places. In light of earth week 2011 the fabulous Muse Hotel in NY hosted the first ever ‘Eco chic boutique’ where exhibitors got to display how to be eco friendly and stylish at the same time. You had everything from environmental friendly handbags made from recycled parasail’s, to mango tree bracelets, skin care and much more.

Patricia Field Showcases Fashion and Designers

Patricia Field inspired a nation of women to buy high-end shoes and garments by outfitting the women in “Sex in the City.” The award-winning costume designer also influences fashion followers via her boutique at 302 Bowery in Manhattan (the location of the photos above).

Brim full with accessories, jewelry and garments displayed on mannequins, racks, and stands and in cases, Field's shop resembles Sex in the City’s main character Carrie's closet, with its varied colors, textures, styles and tones. Even the mannequins invite a second look. Posed for action, some even squat, others seem bent on doing yoga. Adam Radakovich (above in the photo at left) is a stylist at the boutique who dresses the mannequins. He describes the task as “playing dress up with a bigger closet.” The shop also styles customers and will do their makeup.

Last month, Field introduced new artists and designers at a trunk show co-sponsored by The Purple Agency. The clients filled both floors and spilled out onto the sidewalk, while house music played and drinks flowed. The event featured ready-to-wear and accessories by Kastle Designs & Treasure Chest; LyraLoveStar Jewelry by Crystal Streets; vintage one-of-a-kind pieces by Vintage Shaun; plus items from Rue 107; Natasha NYC; Noir NYC; and Alisha Crutchfield.

Some of the vendors said they hope Field picks up their lines and sells them regularly in her boutique. Among them are twin sisters and designers Danielle and Chantelle Piper, who showed garments and jewelry from their Kastle Designs & Treasure Chest lines. They’re wearing sparkly fitted dresses and long, dangly earrings in the photo. (Danielle is at left and Chantelle is on the right in the right photo above).

Mother’s day couldn’t have gotten off to be a better start than it did at the 33^rd annual outstanding mother awards. Each and every year notable mothers from the world of entertainment, lifestyle and political realm get honored for their outstanding achievements within their careers but as well for simply, being a mom.

I had the great pleasure of catching up with Fashion Mogul and humanitarian, Donna Karan. Our conversation was light hearted, fun and definitely thrilling when one of the top fashion queens turned to me and said ‘your outfit is gorgeous!’. That pretty much set the pace for the rest of our interview which primarily focused on her charity work with Urban Zen in Haiti. She described how she is now in a different stage of mothering, she is ‘mothering the world’ and those who need to be mothered. We also talked about being recognized for her outstanding career in the fashion industry and creating such an iconic platform that we have all grown to love. Other honorees for the day included editor-in chief of Glamour Magazine, Cindi Leive, NY Senator Gillibrand and many more.

From DKNY it was Academy award winning actress Susan Sarandon who gave us a private interview with the exclusive green room at the Pierre. Inside we talked about her various roles, how she stays current in the acting scene and even what roles she has enjoyed most so far. Her most notable roles lately have been playing mothers so she was honored to be recognized for her multi tasking achievements bringing forth what I think is just her best asset, just being simply Susan.

From the Pierre Hotel and the awards it was off to ground Zero, or as we like to say here at We Know TV ‘Ground Hero’. This is the place where men and women literally become heroes and President Barack Obama delivered a heartfelt speech marking close to decade since the catastrophe. It was quite an experience being on site where this all took place and getting to speak to families who suffered a tragic loss and even your everyday New Yorkers about their sentiments on Osama’s Death and their sense of Unity.

"Fashion After Bark"

The pet product and service industry has exploded over the years and has become a multi-billion dollar business; and it's no surprise as pet lovers pamper, travel, groom and splurge on their beloved animals that have become such a significant member of the family unit . One particular sector of this growing market is fashion. Pet fashion has become an integrated part of the global fashion industry; and pet fashion designers are growing and becoming popular in the pet world. Even well know fashion companies such as Ralph Lauren has extended their product line to include classic dog polo, and the sporty puffer vest, to name a few. This being said, I was invited to my 1st dog fashion show at the Fashion Institute of Technology. There, each student of the Pet Product Design and Marketing Professional Development Certificate Program out did themselves as each designer show case their final work.

However, the pooches stole the show as one by one they came out in everything from a black velvet cape with pearl necklace, to bright yellow raincoats, a peacock feather leash, knitted sweaters, feather trim hats, and lace and tool evening wear. This is the third annual canine fashion show held at the school, and the Amphitheater was packed with family, friends, celebrities and industry professionals. Among them were Mario Difante, executive director of pet fashion week NY, Fern Mallis, Creator of New York Fashion Week, and vice president of IMG Fashion, and Sonja Morgan from the Real House Wife of New York. Guest DJ was Lenny Emery. The dogs featured in the show was from Posh Pet Rescue and all are up for adoption. After the show the pets took their finnal bow at the media backdrop as photographers flashed away.

Feel Good and Get Fit with the Matrixx Power Suit

April Brings Poetry and Film Festivals

There are two big goings-on this month, one national and the other in New York. National Poetry Month is inspiring events nationwide, including the recent Poem in Your Pocket Day April 14. Coming up in New York is the Tribeca Film Festival, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

On Poem in Your Pocket Day, Poets House in New York handed out poems printed on cards. See: http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-590606. Meanwhile former U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins (in photo, at right) and Guggenheim Fellowship recipient and award-winning poet Kimiko Hahn (third from right) took part in a poetry reading at Lehman College in The Bronx. When asked, Collins said his pocket poem of choice would be “This Lime-Tree Bower My Prison” by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Hahn said she would carry along “So Lonely am I” by Ono No Komachi, translated from the Japanese by Donald Keene.

Elson and Welch: Separated at Birth?

Did you ever notice how model/singer Karen Elson, at left, strongly resembles singer Florence Welch? We like both of these performers. Elson is featured in Tom Ford’s Spring 2011 video. While her song “Pretty Baby” plays in the background, the statuesque redhead model, plus Julianne Moore, Beyonce, Daphne Guinness and other celebs strut Ford’s intimate catwalk. We were glad to see Ford come back to designing again after a six-year hiatus.

ATTITUDE Jay Manuel of Sears Canada Debuts 3/30

I didn’t find any information on the ATTITUDE Sears Canada Web site page yet, but both Jay Manuel and LG Fashion Week have let it be known that Mr. Manuel, the fabulous stylist from “America’s Next Top Model,” is Sears Attitude Canada’s new creative director. The private collection will debut March 30 at LG Fashion Week Beauty by L'Oreal Paris Fall 2011 in Toronto. The Ontario, Canada city’s Fashion Week runs March 28-April 1. Manuel is shown at right in the photo, speaking to David Blond of The Blonds, at left. In a recent blog post, Manuel wrote: “I can’t believe the day has finally arrived when I can tell you about what I’ve been working on for over a YEAR! For those of you who guessed I was working on a clothing line … you were right! … I will be involved in all facets of the collection including product development, design, fit, in-store retail and marketing. In addition to women’s apparel, ATTITUDE Jay Manuel will also include shoes, bags and accessories. The entire line will be available in all Sears stores across Canada. I’m super excited, nervous and grateful to welcome you to the world of ATTITUDE Jay Manuel.” I’m excited to see the line at Toronto’s Fashion Week. LaQuan Smith and Others Rip the Runway on BET 3/21

Queens, New York prodigy LaQuan Smith is among six designers on the BET (Black Entertainment Television) “Rip the Runway” show, which airs March 21. Hosted by Mehcad Brooks and Selita Ebanks and filmed at Manhattan’s Hammerstein Ballroom, the event features performers such as Fabolous and Keri Hilson onstage along with the runway models. Designers showcased include Hassan Pierre, Jordan White & Charlie Browne, Lila Nikole, Tennille White, Rachel Roy.

Smith will also show his collection at Arise Magazine Fashion Week, March 10–13 in Lagos, Nigeria. Many of his form-fitting dresses and separates are made of lightweight neoprene in neon colors like pink, orange and turquoise. His garments not only hug curves, they accentuate femininity.

Animal Planet Show Features Mike Tyson and his Pigeons

Mike Tyson’s new reality series, “Taking on Tyson,” debuted on Animal Planet Sunday, March 6 and runs for five more Sundays. The show centers around former world heavyweight champ Tyson and his homing pigeons. The fighter started raising the birds when he was a boy growing up in a tough section of Brooklyn. In the show, Tyson and a group of friends from New York and New Jersey start racing the birds. But they have competition.

Just when you thought fashion week was over, another one begins. And unlike Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Couture Fashion Week is all about luxury. Held in the Grand Ballroom at the Waldorf-Astoria, designers from all over the world showcase their collections to high end luxury buyers, retailers and upscale consumers. As you walk into the ballroom awaiting to see some of the most beautifully made gowns, you can appreciate the beauty of the hotel and it’s upscale ambiance which mimics the elegance of the pieces created by the designers. The environment was more relaxed than Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week with less audience stylishly dressed in jeans to gowns. Outside the ballroom were more luxury products and services as well as an exhibit of high end art.

Designers Hadi Katra son of the famous Lebanese designer Pierre Katra, and Brazilian born Simone Rodrigues both had exotically beautiful collections that left the audience captivated. This is the epitome of art, to create pieces that command attention through a visual and emotional connection, which in turn stirs up the imagination.

Another aspect of Couture Fashion Week is the live performances in-between fashion shows. The audience was treated to the vocal genius of Cristina Fontanelli, music composer William Camilleri, and Lara Janine & Dani Tersini of the pop/rock group Black Liner . With their unique sound, Black Liner's performance was classic and modern, incorporating violin and electric guitar with awesome vocals. Overall Couture Fashion Week, is an unique blend of fashion and entertainment for the higher luxury brand market.

Betsey Johnson "What a show!!"

Betsey Johnson has always been known for her "over the top" collections and this year was just an over the top performance! her collection was a must have if you are a animal print lover like me! it also featured very Victorian goth, and plaid wear. but what made the show memorable for me was her employees coming out at the end in her new pink label line legendary career collection; truly for every single individual.

Betsey Johnson then graced the stage with a black wig, did her famous kart wheel and out came a parade of models holding huge flowers in honor of valentines day. This was a show you definitely shouldn't of missed!!

So everyone always wants to know who's who and which show did they go to, Well of course the lady of front row status was spotted everywhere, that's the one and only ______. Spotting Gabrielle Union looking thin tone and fabulous. Sitting next to Julia Stiles who looked amazing as always, in a soft blue dress. however It was Mr. & Mrs. Jay that took me by surprised as they rose out of there seats, revealing to me men over 6ft. It was absolutely a fabulous honor seeing Amanda Lapore at the Blond fashion show, and very weird but interesting to see Angelina Pivarnick from MTV's Shore, sitting front row , taking pictures of herself and date.

Wyclef and his Wife graced the front row with there presence, and countless individuals came towards him, of course to congratulate him for his effort in Haiti. It was Adriene Bailon that was a great front row attendee but when near she seemed to be having a bad night. Yesterday at the metropolitan, walking away with no dialog after a question was asked, yet stared back at us as we were alone side by side in the entry way.
Denise Richards came out yesterday, she looked fabulous!! it was America's top model contestant Keenyah Hill that walked the stage and one Jade Cole that posed for the cameras.

The Blonds Fall 2011 Runway Show

The Blonds show was out of this world spectacular! Think Diana Ross in Maho gany, the 70's era, Asian influences and a lot of sparkle and fun. Now think "The Blonds" I need not say more. Their corsets are to die for; and the cat-suits are drop dead sexy.

The show opened with a kick ass video follow by two Chinese red dragons that were very entertaining and cute. Then pow, in your face raw fierceness. My favorite piece in the collection was the "Chop Chop white sequence corset with black chopstick detail. " Every year The Blond's out do themselves with a great show and superb mastery in technique. Their beading and embellishments are to be admired. In the front row, singer Keri Hilson, rapper Eve, Miss J, J Alexander, and Nigel Barker. Held at Milk Studios, the show was intimate, exhilarating, and one of the best this fashion week.

The Heart Truth

The Tracy Reese collection had a life of its own, Tracy Reese my top favorite designer had a spectacular line. Every single piece i would wear straight off the runway, she had the entire room applauding and howling congratulations, as she comes out and applaud us!! Her show start with the entire room going dark and All of the lights by Kanye West ft. Rihanna boomed through the speakers; thanks to Tracy it's now my favorite song. I also personally like to thank her for using more then one African American Model, They all did a fabulous job!! i wish i could see it all again!

The twice-a-year New York International Gift Fair just wrapped up its first offering for 2011, and of course WeKnowTV was there to cover the event. This gathering brings together wholesalers and retailers from across the world and is basically a preview of the new gift items that will hit stores in a few months. The glamorously decorated booths and the numerous items on display all clamored for our attention, but here are a few pieces that really stimulated our senses!

We were glad to see the many eco-friendly offerings on display. Global warming is a very serious issue and we're hoping that all the extra effort manufacturers are putting into creating reusable products and using recyclable materials is not a fad! We were especially impressed with Paddywax, an Atlanta based Candle Company known for their chic packaging and elegant scents. Not only will thei r new line include exotic scents containing mandarin and bordeaux fig, but the candles will come packaged in recycled wine bottles, topped off with wooden caps. These are sure to be a hit with the eco-savvy fashionista who appreciates luxuriating while preserving the planet.

And for all the Project Runway fans, Korto M omolu (one of the more popular runners-up on the hit show) has teamed up with the inspirational stationery company SanLori, designing a line of notecards and candles for them. The stationery comes in designs just as fierce as the designer herself, with inspirational messages like "Hold On To Your Faith" and "Faith, Hope, Inspire, Dream, Believe" stamped inside the lid o f each box. These beautiful pieces were previewed at the Spring/Summer 2011 Fashion Week in September and are a part of SanLori 's spring 2011 line. They are available now, so look for them in stationery shops and trendy boutiques near you.
And if you're into cool designer dinnerware, you should be on the look out for Ink Dish's line with innovative tattoo artist Paul Timman, tattooist for some of Hollywood's biggest stars like Ben Affleck and Pam Anderson. Timman and Ink Dish have been collaborating since 2009 and their latest offering "Tattoo Lotus" is just as fresh as their previous designs together. This company definitely proved their cutting-edge at the fair, not only with their unique designs, but with the fact that they had Timman, front and center, giving real tattoo s all day! This company sure knows how to think out of the box, and if they continue on this track, they're sure to be diners' first choice in dinnerware for a long time to come.

Toronto’s Fashion Week included after-parties at some of the city’s posh night spots, including AME, Maison Mercer, the Roosevelt Room, and the Thompson Hotel (all within walking distance of each other).

Thompson Hotel: Thompson Toronto, a hotel and residence, is a Freed Developments project and one of a chain of international, upscale Thompson hotels. In the heart of a former downtown industrial district, which is being redeveloped into urban housing and trendy shops, restaurants and clubs, the club attracted crowds during LG Fashion Week.
On one night, the Thompson Toronto after-parties took over both the ground floor and lower level bars. On the lower level, models in down ski jackets from luxury French outwear brand Moncler posed on lounge chairs, while other models (shown in photo) stood “mannequin-style” and also walked among guests. Meanwhile, a fashion video by another vendor played out on a big screen in a nearby room. People flowed from one space to another, as readily as the booze poured from the bars (even though the drinks were not on the house).

AME: This modern, edgy club on Mercer Street was full up (but not too crowded) every night of LG Fashion Week. Yet each night the crowd seemed to vary and Oct. 19 the club even hosted a mini fashion show/presentation by designer Heidi Ackerman. (If you get a chance, check out Wayne Gretzky’s, a sports bar and shrine to the Canadian, a celebrated National Hockey League [NHL] player, on the same block).

Maison Mercer: Just a few storefronts down from AME, Maison Mercer is a massive, multi-level club. One night during LG Fashion Week it was the site of a midnight fashion show of men’s and women’s wear by the Danish label, Sand.

Roosevelt Room: This club is hard to find because it doesn’t seem to have storefront signage and its entrance is in an alley. That said, the club did hold opening and closing night parties during LG Fashion Week. Super model and Canadian Coco Rocha hosted the former and design duo The Blonds held court during the latter.

Designers at Work

Fashion Designers never seem to sit still. Last month, Yeohlee Teng opened her first flagship store on West 38^th Street in Manhattan’s garment district (photo at left). Rebecca Moses recently released a new book, “A Life of Style.” Queens’ prodigy LaQuan Smith made his European debut at Athens Xclusive Designer Week in Greece. And Japanese designer h. Naoto was interviewed by Museum at FIT director Valerie Steele during FIT’s two-day Japan Fashion Now symposium.

Canadian and American Bloggers (and other Media) to Know

Fashion Bloggers sat front row during Toronto’s recent LG Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011, just as they did at New York’s fashion week. Bloggers of note (and other media) at both include:

Satisfashion: Blogger Jay Strut (shown at left) is a fan of U.S. Elle style director Kate Lanphear. His blog shows pics of him with Lanphear and other fashion bigwigs (and sitting front row at fashion shows). He was among fashion insiders at Roosevelt Room and AME after-parties during LG Fashion Week in Toronto. He definitely has his own style, knows how to work it, and it really does work.

Birdcage magazine and blog: Set to launch in January 2011, this online fashion magazine start-up is founded by model and writer Nadia Genevieve Masri, who enlisted her top model friends as bloggers. She can be seen at both Toronto and New York fashion weeks. Watch for her to become even better known.

Destination Luxury: This company’s Web site states: “Destination Luxury scours the globe for alluring attractiveness, creating a landscape where design, travel, fashion, pampering and culinary delights intertwine.” David Christopher Lee, editor in chief, showed me his video footage at New York’s fashion week in September. I wanted to see more.

Fashion Television: OK. It’s not a blog, but worth pointing out that Fashion Television was well represented at both Toronto and New York fashion weeks. In Canada, Fashion Television is under the umbrella of CTV, Canada’s largest private broadcaster and most-watched television network (To find CTV's link to Fashion Television, follow the "Video" link on the CTV.ca homepage). CTV Inc. is owned by CTVGlobeMedia Inc., which also owns Canada’s national newspaper, The Globe and Mail.

Sandy Ramirez: This New York photographer, a regular contributor to the fashion Web site Modacycle, has his own photo blog, A Life in Pictures and Words. He's also house photographer for renowned New York designer Loris Diran.

StyleLikeU.com: Patrick Orcutt and Alex Chapman are both tall and thin, but it’s their personal styles and fashion sense that made them stand out at New York’s fashion week. And their fashion Web site is a standout, too.
