Fashion's Best of the Past Decade

As we usher in a new year, it’s time to look back at the best of the last 12 months, and in this case, the best of the past decade. We’re ending the year “two thousand and nine”, but people are still deciding whether to call the new year “two thousand and ten” or “twenty-ten”.

Some of the best fashion parties in New York this past year have been hosted by Soho Grand and Tribeca Grand hotels, in cooperation with GrandLife NYC. And tonight, they’re ending the year with New Year’s Eve events. Tribeca Grand Hotel will throw a ball-drop party, while Soho Grand will host a black-and-white masquerade ball.
Some of the best fashions of the decade included over-the-knee boots, ballet flats, leggings, and sequins (worn during the day).
InStyle.com, that arbiter of fashion, has posted its “100 Best Dresses of the Decade”, including our favorites: JLo’s plunging front, blue-green Versace worn in 2000 at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles; and Hilary Swank’s plunging back, blue Guy Laroche gown, which she sported in 2005 at the 77th Annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles.
This past decade has also presented us with some of the best-ever fashion movies, including Vogue documentary “September Issue”, biographical “Coco Before Chanel” and another documentary, “Valentino: The Last Emporer.”
As snow blankets New York City this last day of 2009, party-goers are deciding whether to go out or stay in. Whether you head out to the Soho Grand or Tribeca Grand hotels’ parties, watch the ball drop at Times Square, or view a movie, we at WeKnow.TV wish you the best of the season. And we also welcome in a new decade of fashion trends. Happy New Year.
