Y-3 Autumn/Winter 2010 Fashion Show

During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2010 in New York, one of the most eye-catching shows was presented by Yohji Yamamoto (known for being among the first Japanese designers to get worldwide attention by showing at Paris in the 1980s). Yamamoto’s show for Y-3 Adidas was held Feb. 14 in the Park Avenue Armory on the Upper East Side in a room as large as a soccer field. The runway was about that long, too, and was lit with neon laser lights, flashing long beams onto the models who strolled quickly and rather jauntily down the catwalk.
I liked the way Yamamoto draped, tucked and finished his sportswear. He said his favorite piece was one with a scarf attached. (There were actually a few like this). The Y-3 Adidas Web site says Adidas represents sports and Yamamoto symbolizes design. For this collection, Yamamoto created stylish separates, which easily could move from the gym to casual work to a night spot.
