On Thursday May 20th Central Park rocked as the Refi Rock Spring Fling took place at the Central Park Zoo. Refi Rock is a financial service fundraising organization that brings together different bands from many Wall Street firms. Since its birth, Refi Rock has helped raised tons of money for charity.
This year Refi Rock is raising money for the Boomer Esiason Foundation to help fight the deadly genetic disease cystic fibrosis. Boomer Esiason "a former NFL quarterback" found out his son was stricken with this fatal disease in 1993. Without despair, the Boomer Esiason foundation was formed, and since its inception, the foundation is fighting to find a cure. Although the event was for a good cause, Wall Street moguls, actors, filmmakers, as well as music lovers, were out to have a good time. Tickets were sold for $60 a head, which included an open bar and food. Hot dog and pretzel stands, as well as pizza stations mimic a real cozy family picnic feel despite the staggering amount of attendees to the night’s event. My curiosity was piqued as I saw Captain Morgan dramatically dressed in full costume with two of his Morganettes. I had the pleasure of interviewing him as well as doing the famous Captain Morgan stance. People loved him as he made his way around the park. As I began to mingle, I met two professional actor/filmmakers. They were both excited to be there and to give their support to the foundation. Rubix Kube was the featured band for the night. Their performance of familiar pop and rock hits from the 80’s was so energetic and full of charisma that they got the audience “busting moves” like for-sure! They wore an eclectic wardrobe much like the real 80’s band Devo. I watched the performance from on top of a speaker. The evening was a lot of fun. So much so that many guests did not want to leave when they announce the party was over. You can learn more about the Boomer Esiason Foundation, and make a donation by visiting www.esiason.org/. You can also visit http://www.refirock.com/ for information on future parties.
