Made in Midtown

June 2nd marked the Website launch and private cocktail reception for Made in Midtown a “pop up exhibit” showcasing garments that were made locally in the heart of New York City’s garment district, also included was a large scale video projection with commentary from fashion designers, pattern makers, merchandisers, and production companies about the importance of the garment district and the fashion industry’s affect on New York’s economy.
The exhibit is to help inform the public about the importance of preserving the neighborhood and protecting jobs within the industry. Made in Midtown was presented by the Design Trust a (“Nonprofit organization devoted to improving New York City’s public realm”) with collaboration from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). Students, designers, and industry moguls all gathered together in Times Square at the Port Authority Bus Terminal, to help celebrate and give support to the cause. Garments showcased were extra ordinary because included were the cutters must, and or the draped muslin that showed the design process. This is a rarity in clothing exhibitions and a priceless experience for an aspiring designer. Participating exhibitors included Anna Sui, Yeohlee, and Nanette Lepore.
