LaQuan Smith: A public radio announcer recently called a scientific advance an “incubator on steroids.” With his last collection, fledgling designer Smith bypassed the incubator and performed like a top athlete on steroids. This time around, after a design trip to Paris, he surpassed himself. Je ne sais quoi! (The designer is shown, at far left, at his after-party at RdV).
Loris Diran: What I said about LaQuan Smith: Ditto for Diran. Both his Upper East Side fans and now the young Brooklyn and West Village chic sets will covet these garments. All are impeccably tailored and styled, as is his standard. My fave? A bubble skirt woven from double-sided fabric strips, which Bubbles, Diran’s assistant, said the designer is considering constructing in leather.
Elene Cassis: I would wear every one of the street-length dresses shown at her spring/summer 2011 show. Most (probably all) of the women in attendance would agree.
Joanna Mastroianni: Hand-beaded and embellished timeless, classic dresses and gowns. Plus beautiful necklaces and accessories.
Tamara Pogosian: A few people questioned on their way out of Pogosian’s presentation said they were more partial to her previous collections. But guests at the crowded after-party oozed enthusiasm. Some waited to greet and compliment the designer and to get their picture taken with her in front of the event’s sponsor backdrop.Elene Cassis: I would wear every one of the street-length dresses shown at her spring/summer 2011 show.
