And we all know New York is the city that never sleeps. Among top fashion party (and model watching) venues here are RdV (aka Rendezvous), Simyone Lounge and Tenjune. Some parties and events are memorable even when long passed, including:
Tommy Hilfiger: Most fashion media named Hilfiger’s 25th anniversary event (held at the Metropolitan Opera house and featuring New York’s popular rock band, The Strokes) the best after-party during fashion week. (Hilfiger is shown posing in front of the sponsor board at his after-party).
Betsey Johnson: Sophia Loren is said to have said she’ll never let an old woman into her body. Johnson is following suit. And appears to get younger with age. She sparkled like the vodka drinks served in the VIP room at her Hudson Hotel after-party. At one point she told the crowd this was her “best day” yet.
Bulgari: We Know TV covered this renowned jewelry company’s auction for charity earlier this year. I didn’t make it to Bulgari on Fifth Avenue for Fashion’s Night Out. Too bad. The jeweler teamed with rock musician Patti Smith, and invited their friends to attend via Facebook.
Charlotte Ronson: JCPenney showcased her “I Heart Ronson” line and served wine and mini cupcakes to fans who packed the store to see the designer and her DJ sister Samantha on Fashion’s Night Out.
Diane von Furstenberg: During NYC’s Fashion’s Night Out, people lined up waiting to get in her meatpacking district showroom. The designer posed for pictures with fans on the boutique side of the venue. I would have liked to see her husband, media mogul Barry Diller. News reports show he was backstage at her Fashion Week runway show.
Ivana Helsinki (and King Collective): Guests at this after-party, in the Polar lounge at the Marcel at Gramercy hotel, included the sister/designer duo’s parents (from Finland), models who walked in their show, and former Heatherette designer (who now has his own label) Richie Rich, seen lounging on a couch surrounded by admirers. But outside the hotel, a processor waited to serve the Helsinki sisters with a summons from Ivana Trump, who filed a lawsuit against the company (which shares the same first name) for trade infringement.
Karl Lagerfeld: He humbly accepted a fashion award created just for him by the Museum at FIT during a formal luncheon at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall.
Kate Spade: She teamed up with "Project Runway" designer Tim Gunn to judge window displays created by contestants at Spade’s Soho boutique during Fashion’s Night Out.
LaQuan Smith: Where did this hot-on-the-scene young designer go after his fashion show at the swanky Peninsula Hotel on Fifth Avenue? To meatpacking district nightspot, RdV, of course. This way he didn’t turn the volume down after his runway show (which featured tennis star Serena Williams) cranked it up so high. His promoters even showed a video of his runway show on a big-screen TV in the club. Now that’s another good idea. The club is jammed with trendy and very friendly (at least to me) people and David Graziano designed its inviting interior. It's located in the "basement" of Bagatelle.
Loris Diran: This New York designer (whose boutique is the Bowery) hosts his after-parties at Nikki Beach. Not only is the venue fabulous, Diran’s clothes are beautiful and his parties boast gorgeous people, too. (Note: If you think his parties are wonderful, consider that Diran held his presentation in the Audi showroom near Grand Central Station where car “models” as well as fashion models were on display. Hot!).
The Green Shows: This eco friendly fashion week hosted its closing night after-party at the same venue where it held its shows: the Metropolitan Pavilion.
