Fund Art Now’s “Nouveau Haiti” event March 28 in New York raised money for Haiti. Guests could also contribute to Fund Art Now, a new nonprofit organization, which benefits artist
Nouveau Haiti featured music and art by Haitians, including painter Michael Brudent, whose art studio in Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince was destroyed in the massive earthquake there Jan. 12. Brudent’s colorful acrylic paintings were displayed along with works by other artists at Collective Hardware on Bowery in New York, where the event was held.

I went expecting a more formal gala with celebrities sequestered at private tables. Instead I found guests, such as New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and David Zelikovsky, Fund Art Now founder and CEO, talking and mingling, while still others listened and danced to the music and admired works by Anton S. Kandinsky, Zach Hyman and Brian Reed.
Nouveau Haiti benefited the Haiti Earthquake Relief Effort administered by the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City. Even if you missed the event, you can still contribute to either the Mayor's Fund or Fund Art Now by following the links to their Web sites.
