Remembering Late Photographer Irving Penn
Fans of the late, renowned fashion photographer Irving Penn (1917-2009) may want to pick up the March issue of Vogue magazine (if they can still find it on the stands). The issue includes a personal and insightful article (entitled "Seeing the Light") written by Vogue fashion editor Phyllis Posnick, who tells about her working relationship with Penn and how it influenced her own fashion sense. If you’re in New York, you can also view an ongoing exhibit of Penn’s work in the Museum of Modern Art’s lobby. Many of my fashion photographer friends tell me they were influenced by Penn. In her Vogue article, Posnick writes, “I loved Penn’s photographs before I ever knew him.”
