While the song “Get the Party Started” played in the background, Glenn Vegas kicked off the first of his summer series parties at The Empire Hotel’s Rooftop Bar in New York March 25. But these regular gigs will be on Thursdays, not Saturday nights (as in the popular song by Pink). That didn’t seem to bother any one of the more than 20 people who started showing up for Vegas' get-together at the Upper West Side venue after 11 p.m., with some of them planning to stay ‘til 4 a.m.
In Vegas' group, I met a makeup artist, preschool teacher, two journalists, a comedian who also does voiceover, and more interesting, well-dressed and well-versed people. The rooftop bar is set up so various parties can reserve lounge areas with seating and tables for their groups. This provides an intimate feeling of being in your own party, plus gives the option of wandering about and talking or dancing with people from other groups.
While doing just that and also checking out the bar and outdoor, roofless deck, I talked briefly with Tom Vogt, an editor of the popular TV series and film, South Park. To be included on the Vegas Lifestyle guest list, call or text +1-702-503-2172 (in New York).
