The Ross School was proud to honor Dame Julie Andrews at Club Starlight in East Hampton on Saturday, June 19th. The renowned singer, film and stage actress, as well as author, is best known for her portrayal of Maria in the “Sound of Music”, and the lovable “Mary Poppins”. Her most recent works include “The Princess Diaries, and “Shrek”.
She has won innumerable awards including the Golden Globe, Grammy, Emmy, BAFTA, People’s Choice Award, Screen Actors Gild Award, and the Academy Award. Active in several charities, she is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and Operation USA, base in California. Special guests include Christie Brinkley and Sonja Morgan from the “Real Housewives of New York City”. A cocktail reception kicked off the gala, followed by dinner and a live silent auction. Proceeds from the auction will go to the Ross School scholarships and programs.
The evening became more spectacular as The Miracles, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, as well as Junior Walker and the All Stars Band had the guests twisting and grooving to some of Motown’s greatest hits. Ms. Andrews was full of joy as she watched the performance. Of course, one cannot be in the Hampton's and not talk about the fashion. Fusionists did not disappoint as some went fully glam in the summers hottest colors, while others were chicly dressed in black. Ms. Andrews wore a beautiful beige suit that made her look very cool and sophisticated. As the night wined down, we say good night to Dame Julie Andrews. I grew up watching Ms. Andrews. I was extremely honored to meet her. It was a night to be cherished.
