Stilettos tear up the runway and house music pulsates through the air as lights illuminate the latest swim styles; this is none other than Miami's Mercedes Benz Swim Fashion Week. Here some of the most sought-after designers showcase the latest in sun-and-waves oriented styles.
We saw designs fit for occasions ranging from a day on the beach to a day on the yacht, and if you prefer to pass your time more actively than maybe the surfer wear from True Religion is more your style. For those into tribal print, check out Mara Hoffman's collection; she has done away with monochrome, revealing some serious prints and Pocahontas-like accessories. If you love one-pieces you'll love Quiss Quiss. Even though the designer claims that this year's collection is increasingly two-piece oriented, she admits that the one-pieces are by far her best sellers. I can certainly see why – their slimness and simplicity effectively highlights curves without distraction. Beach Bunny delivered its always sexy, flirty bikinis, and Ed Hardy wowed with the sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll styles. The designer of True Religion explained that her inspiration is overwhelmingly denim, and ways in which she can deconstruct it to create swimwear that has no denim at all.
I sat right next to the Kardashians at the Beach Bunny swimwear event, went backstage with every designer showcasing on the Raleigh runway, and chatted with Chris Brown's sexy new girlfriend, Jasmine. She's so pretty I'm hoping things work out.
At both the Poko Pano and Quiss Quiss shows we filmed from back stage, so we got to see the girls in their natural habitat before they hit the runway (as natural as 4 pounds of makeup and 3 cans of hairspray can be). Many of them tripped repeatedly in their 5 inch heels, and the designer of True Religion explained that she had her girls dump the heels because she was going for a more grounded look (literally).
