Even though most of us couldn’t see her in person, we knew she was there. We Know TV was among an estimated 20,000 people who packed Rockefeller Center Friday to see Lady Gaga perform as part of NBC’s Today show’s Summer Concert Series. This is only a start to this post, we plan to add more text and photos soon. But we wanted to say Happy Birthday to Ashley and Carly – who probably don’t even know each other, yet were celebrating at the concert with friends. At one point during the performance the rain drenched us, but the sun came out by the concert’s end. Carly’s friend Casey said “the rain was the best part.” All we talked to said it was worth it to camp out overnight or come very early to see the morning show. “Lady Gaga was gorgeous,” Casey said.
As with any major event, there were “A” list and “B” list guest and press boxes. A-listers Carly and her friends sat in front-row seats near the stage, which was set up on Rockefeller Plaza, a street between East 48th and 49th streets. Most everyone else was behind the stage in what we
think of as the actual Rockefeller Plaza, the big open square with the rink. Carly’s friend Jamie, a jewelry designer, blogged about their experience at the Lady Gaga concert: http://jabiewee.tumblr.com/page/3
If you look closely at the We Know TV blog pics, you’ll see one shot of Lady Gaga from the side of the stage, which was elevated at first and then lowered to main stage level. Ashley and her group (Ises, Elizabeth, Jada, Jose and Daphny [I hope I spelled Daphny right]) were north of the rink, near East 50th Street. They might not have been able to see Lady Gaga, but they had a great view of the crowd.
The Today show hosts said fans had been lining up for a few days. Brianne, Tayah and Bryan took the 4:30 a.m. train over from Jersey. “But we weren’t early enough,” Brianne said. “We were up all night getting ready.” Still, they and others We Know TV talked to said it was worth it to make an effort and see (or hear) Lady Gaga perform.
