QVC's new BFF - The Celeb!!!
Do you still believe televised home shopping to be a time-filler for bored housewives and an absolute necessity for those living in the most remote corners of "Anywhere U.S.A."? Wellllll, even if you consider this a veritable construct, you may soon develop a corrigible case of envy and launch your own foray into home shopping when QVC launches its holiday lines this coming fall! "Oh really?!", you question? To which I reply "Indeed!". Simply put, if you're a fan of brand names and celebs, QVC should be one of your Christmas shopping stops this year my friends!
QVC (its name an acronym for Quality, Variety, and Convenience) has been selling all manner of products to the world since 1986. With 180 million viewers worldwide, and over half that figure in the U.S. alone, it is one of the largest home shopping networks on the planet. Maybe QVC's audience has become a little more disrciminating, or maybe QVC has decided that, wherever they are in the world, their audience needs a little more Hollywood in their life. Whatever the reason, QVC's battery of not just celebrity endorsed, but celebrity designed products grows larger and larger each season. Isaac Mizrahi - whose clothing line was financed by of all fashion houses, Chanel, back in the '90s - now has an exclusive line, IsaacMizrahiLive, with QVC. Anything sold here by the designer absolutely cannot be found anywhere else as is the case with most of QVC's celeb lines. IsaacMizrahiLive includes everything from handbags to flats to outterwear and even cheesecake! Yes! Isaac can provide you with a fashion forward cheesecake! However, the price points are just what you'd expect from QVC and not a designer who was once under the coverage of The House of Chanel. Items like the adorable $50 lace wrapped flats prove this point. Not bad at all Isaac. And Rachel Zoe, Hollywood's most conspicuous stylist has also been successfully selling her line on QVC since the Fall of 2009. Her faux fur pieces are her signature. Usually, my first instinct upon seeing fur is to "cop-a-feel", and that's exactly what I did with Zoe's fur. They surprisingly felt much softer and more luxurious than the average faux fur piece. So, by the looks (and feel) of her new holiday line, many shoppers will probably be put on QVC's waitlist within an hour of this season's debut - again! Added to QVC's celeb roster this season will be Janie Bryant's new line called Mod by Janie Bryant. Janie is the costume designer for AMC's highly successful show, "Mad Men". The collection is very lady-like, sophisticated and certainly does not skimp on the '60s glamour found on the show. And of course you won't have to spend "Mad Money" (I love puns) to obtain any of this elegance as price points range from $26-$138. Reality TV darlings, The Kardashians are also choosing QVC as the launchpad for their very first clothing line, K-Dash by Kardashian. In the past, these gals have partnered with clothing brand BEBE and of course everyone knows about their high-end boutiques, however this is their first time as actual hands-on designers. From what I've seen, expect very trendy and functional clothing, with a little dash of sex appeal.
Some of your favorite beauty products found in stores like Sephora also have deals with QVC where they debut exclusive lines with the TV retailer. The up-coming season will be no different as some of your favorite brands like SmashBox, Philosophy, and Bare Escentuals will all debut products to be found only with QVC.
QVC's celeb-driven sales seem to be doing well for them as the company is now worth over $14 billion. Talking to PR at QVC, I was told that when they first birthed the idea of selling celebs lines, trying to get the celebs on board was extremely difficult. I guess that's understandable given the old perception of tv retailing held by most fashionistas. However, now, every celeb wanting to move volumes of product is courting QVC. Kudos to you QVC for rebranding and showing the world that everyone is worthy of a bit of style and flair.
