Lee Alexander McQueen was truly one of the great master couturier of our time. He was an inspiration to me and countless other fashion designers. The raw passion, craftsmanship, and creativity in his work transcends time and fashion making them masterpieces of art. "Savage Beauty" is the new exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. The exhibit will be on display now through to July 31. Many of the designers radical and iconic designs are on display from his post graduate collection, to being creative director at Givenchy, and finally to his own London design house.
The drama and showmanship throughout the collections was unbelievably fantastic. Every intricate detail, cut, and tailoring is right there for you to examine and appreciate his extraordinary talent. Alexander went beyond the boundaries of conventional fashion and created unique compositions that incorporate technological ingenuity. Also on display is the beautiful and extravagant head-pieces created for Alexander by the great hat designer Philip Treacy. One particular I fell in love with was the bird hat made of wood and coral, shown above.
Alexander will be missed and is a tremendous lost to the fashion industry. However, this exhibit is filled with works to be treasured. This is a must see exhibit for any designer and fashionista who can appreciate the craft.
